Home Remedies To Get Rid of Unwanted Facial Hair

Facial hair on women is undesirable and they find it so embarrassing.  All of us have a little hair on the face, but there is a sudden growth of this hair in some women due to various reasons.  This excessive growth of hair in women is called hirsutism.

The most common reason for this hirsutism is generally a hormonal imbalance.  There is a hormone called androgen, males produce high levels of these hormones, if the levels of these hormones increases in women, unwanted hair start to grow and this condition is called “Hirsutism”.  Usually Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is the major cause of Hirsutism.  Hirsutism can also be hereditary.  Sometimes use of certain medicines can also cause facial hair to grow.

There are different ways to get rid of unwanted facial hair including plucking, waxing, threading and bleaching.  However, these are only temporary solutions to your problem and these techniques also have their drawbacks.  For example, waxing and shaving can lead to faster hair growth, and bleaching is known to potentially damage the skin and is therefore unsuitable for those with sensitive skin.  There are also other treatments for hair removal, such as electrolysis and laser hair removal, but these can cost you hundreds of dollars and still there are chances that you might not get fruitful results.  Also, none of these methods were able to remove the hair permanently and they keep on coming back.

Here are a few easy-to-follow home remedies that can help you deal with this problem for the rest of your life by using natural products that are guaranteed to be kind and gentle to your skin.

1.  Milk and Turmeric

In some Indian communities, it was a common practice for women to apply a little turmeric to their faces or at least the portion extending between the ears to the chin.  Besides being good for one’s complexion and the antibacterial effect, turmeric is also said to have the property of curbing hair growth.  Turmeric is good for other skin problems too.  Here are some more beauty benefits of Haldi.

 A combination of milk and turmeric powder is a popular hair removal technique used by Indian women.  Used since ancient times, some proponents claim it can stop hair growth indefinitely.  In order to use it, simply mix chickpea flour, turmeric powder, and milk in a bowl until you form a thick paste.  Apply thinly to the area you want to be hair-free, scrubbing gently in a circular motion.  Once the paste has dried wait about 20 minutes and then rinse off with cold water.

2.  Use Spearmint

As mentioned earlier unwanted hair usually appears because of excess production of androgens.  You can use spearmint tea to regulate the levels of these hormones.

Take 1 cup water and bring it to a boil, add 1 tsp dried spearmint or 5-6 leaves of fresh spearmint and remove from heat.  Keep it covered for 5 minutes then strain and consume.  A daily cup of this tea is enough to treat your problem of unwanted hair.

3.  Yogurt, Gram Flour & Turmeric

Take 2 tablespoon yogurt, 2 tablespoon gram flour and ½ teaspoon turmeric powder. Make a paste of all these ingredients and apply it to the area of facial hair.  Let it dry and gently rub it off.  Frequent use of this mixture for a few months will remove facial hair permanently.

4.  Lemon and Sugar

In order to use lemon and sugar for hair removal, you should mix 1 fresh lemon with 1 spoon of sugar.  You should also use a little water so as to dissolve the sugar.  Leave the mixture on your face for 15-20 minutes and then wash off with cold water.  If you do this regularly, at least for 3 times a week, you will begin to see a noticeable reduction in hair growth.  It works like an exfoliating agent with the lemon acting as an antiseptic and astringent.

5.  Egg, Sugar and Corn Flour

This method is very easy because most people will have all the necessary ingredients already in their kitchen.  Simply take the white of one egg and add 1tbsp of sugar and ½ tbsp. of corn flour.  Mix and beat the combination to make a paste and then apply to the unwanted hair on your face. Once dried it will form a thin mask which when pulled off, will pull out the unwanted hair.

6.  Lemon Juice and Honey

Combine 1 part fresh lemon juice and 4 parts honey and mix well.  Then, soak a cotton ball or pad in the mixture and rub gently over the unwanted facial hair for about 10-15 minutes.  After half an hour, rinse the face with warm water. In order to see a noticeable effect you should repeat this process at least twice a week.

7.  Basil Onion Paste

You need 9 to 12 fresh basil leaves and the thin transparent membrane found in the onions.  Take membranes of two onions and make a paste by crushing these with basil leaves.  Apply this paste on the areas with excess hair.  Using this paste for a month.  It will bring beneficial result and you might end up getting rid of your unwanted hair forever.

 8.  Include phytoestrogens in your diet

In most cases, excess hair growth on the face are a result of an imbalance of the hormone estrogen.  Certain plants contain compounds that have a function similar to that of estrogen – these are called as phytoestrogens.  Researchers are studying the effect of phytoestrogens in patients with hormonal imbalances; results indicate that consuming foods rich in phytoestrogens helps reduce the hair growing on the face.  Licorice (jethimadhu), alfalfa (rajko or rijaka), flaxseeds (alsi), fennel (saunf) and Gotu Kola (brahmi in north India) are some of the plants that have been found to contain high concentrations of phytoestrogens.  Try to include these in your cooking on a regular basis and check if it makes a difference to your complaint of hirsutism.

Though these mixtures and treatment options for removing hair come fully guaranteed to work, they are by no means an instant fix to your facial hair woes.  Keep in mind that patience and regular application are needed in order to receive maximum benefit.  After a few weeks of consistent use many individuals will start to see the hair on their face disappear, maybe even permanently.  If, however, these remedies only work as a temporary solution you will have nevertheless nurtured your skin with products known to create clean, clear, and glowing skin.
